Opening Doors for God and the Community.

The Story of the Activities Center at Northwest Baptist Church.

Northwest Baptist Ministries is opening doors for God by opening its doors to the community. The Ministry’s Activities Center is a hub for community activity, serving members and non-members alike. As pastor Rob Hunt puts it, “It helps the community know they are welcome. It just shouts you are welcome here.” The center hosts Open Gym Night on Tuesdays and Shout-Praise Kids on Wednesday nights. Tuesdays and Thursdays feature Helping Hands Tutoring Sessions for local middle school students. On Sunday night, it’s Awana, an organization aimed at building spiritually strong youth. The space is also home to numerous community activities throughout the year.

The Activities Center was a venture funded by The Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma. Its primary purpose is keeping the ministry relevant to both the church and the surrounding community. Jan Story, Northwest member and volunteer for Open Gym Night, describes the Center as a place where Northwest Baptist “can be the face of Jesus and love the people right where they are.” “Our new facilities have dramatically improved our relationships with local schools,” said Pastor Hunt. Through community engagement, Northwest is staying true to its mission: Reaching People for Christ and Walking with Them to Maturity. The Northwest Ministries Activities Center is a prime example of successful partnerships between The Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma and the local congregations it serves.
