Legacy Church Partnerships

legacy ministry

A Legacy Church Ministry is a church's concentrated effort in partnership with the Foundation to promote planned giving in the congregation and to build a church's endowment fund. The Foundation assists the church in setting up the structure for educating its members about giving and helps the church create and manage an endowment fund to receive gifts. Legacy partnerships allow a church to use the Foundation's planned giving resources, at no cost, to help guide their congregation in gift decisions.

The Foundation assists by providing staff to counsel church members about their giving plans, helps facilitate the planning of wills and other estate planning documents; provides resources, computations, and illustrations to prospective donors; and conducts seminars and workshops on planned giving when the church requests.

Once a church and the Foundation enter into a partnership, the church is then a Legacy Church Ministry. The church then creates a:

  • Planned giving ministry committee to oversee the use of gifts. The committee promotes the effort and encourages the congregation by providing information, educators, and counsel on wills.
  • Legacy Fund, an endowment fund for the purpose of receiving gifts. This is not a part of the church's normal budget. This endowment fund is distributed with approval by the Committee and can be used for such things as missions, scholarships, the church's capital needs, or family ministries.
